To mark the International Day of Immunology, the conference ‘Immune Tolerance: How Does the Immune System Distinguish Friends from Foes?’, organised by the Lithuanian Society for Immunology and the Division of Biological, Medical, and Geosciences of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences will be held on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 at the Small Hall of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
Every year, the International of Day Immunology is celebrated on 29 April, and the theme for this day is proposed by the International Union of Immunological Societies, of which the Lithuanian Society for Immunology is a member. This year’s topic is ‘Regulatory T Cells: Guardians of Immune Balance’.The conference will focus on the importance of immune tolerance and regulatory T cells (Tregs), research into which was honoured with the Nobel Prize in 2025.
The speakers will include Academician Prof. Aurelija Žvirblienė, Vilnius University and the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Dr Vita Pašukonienė, National Cancer Institute, Dr Edita Gasiūnienė and Dr Rūta Inčiūraitė, both representing the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. Based on specific disease examples, the speakers will focus on the role of Tregs in maintaining the balance of the immune system.
