Academicians among the Recipients of the Highest State Awards

Gitanas Nausėda, President of the Republic of Lithuania, awarded orders and medals of the Republic of Lithuania to the citizens of Lithuania and foreign countries for merits to the Republic of Lithuania and for glorifying Lithuania’s name in the world on the occasion of 16 February, the Day of Restoration of the State of Lithuania. Three members of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Adolfas Laimutis Telksnys, Vaidutis Kučinskas, and Pranas Viškelis, were among the recipients.

Prof. Dr Habil Adolfas Laimutis Telksnys was awardedthe Grand Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania. He is a member emeritus of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, a creator of computing machines in Lithuania and the pioneer of internet development and humanoid robotics in Lithuania. He is an expert in the strategy of information development, who has significantly contributed to the development of Lithuania as one of the world's leading countries in the field of high-speed Internet.

The Cross of Officer of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas was awarded to Prof. Dr Habil. Vaidutis Kučinskas, a full member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the chair of the Academy’s Division of Biological, medical, and Geosciences. He is a world-renowned scientist and the initiator of human and medical genetics in Lithuania.

The Cross of Officer of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas was also awarded to Prof. Dr Pranas Viškelis, a full member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, the chair of the Food Quality and Safety Commission of the Academy’s Division of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, the head and a senior research fellow of the biochemistry and technology laboratory at the Institute of Horticulture of the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry, and a professor at Kaunas University of Technology. He is an active developer of innovative biologically valuable plant-based food processing technologies and products.

The community of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences extend their congratulations to Adolfas Laimutis Telksnys, Vaidutis Kučinskas, and Pranas Viškelis on this important and festive occasion.
