The Initiative of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences Raises €10,000 to Ukrainian Scientists

20 12 2022

With the war in Ukraine in its tenth month and Russia destroying Ukraine’s cities, roads, and other infrastructure, including research and study institutes, on 6 December the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences launched an initiative to support Ukrainian scientists. We are delighted that over €10,000 have been donated to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in just one week. The money raised has been used to buy two high-capacity power generators for Ukrainian research institutes so that their scientists can continue their research. In cooperation with the representatives of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, one of the generators will be transported to Kyiv in the nearest future and the second should reach Ukrainian scientists in February 2023.

Prof. Jūras Banys, President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, contacted Prof. Anatoly Zagorodny, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, informed him about the purchase of the power generators, and promised to continue raising funds for Ukrainian scientists. Prof. Zagorodny expressed his joy and gratitude for the kindness of the Lithuanian academic community.

To help Ukraine in its fight for the Freedom of all of us as much as possible, the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences continues this meaningful initiative and invites you not to remain indifferent and donate until 24 December of the current year. We are sincerely grateful for your kindness.
