On October 1, the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (the Academy) welcomed Prof. Shun-Fen Tzeng, Executive Director of the Science and Technology Division of the Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania, who has held this position since March of this year. The meeting was attended by Prof. Jūras Banys, the president of the Academy of Sciences of Lithuania, Prof. Zenonas Dabkevicius, the vice-president and Dr. Andrius Bernotas, the Head of Organizing department. At the meeting, Prof. J. Banys presented the composition, structure, goals and objectives of the Academy, as well as provided information of its activities.
Prof. J. Banys emphasized the close ties between the Taiwanese scientific community, Lithuanian scientists and the Academy. President expressed his delight that the leadership of the Academy, together with a delegation from the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, had visited Taiwan at the invitation of the Minister of the National Science and Technology Council of Taiwan.
Prof. Shun-Fen Tzeng shared her insights on the beginning of her activities in Lithuania and opportunities for further cooperation. The parties agreed that scientific ties between the countries are becoming closer, scientific dialogue is intensifying, and the prospects are favorable. The specifics and trends of research assessment in both countries were also briefly discussed.
This was Executive Director's first visit to the Academy. She intends to take an interest in the scientific discussions and events taking place at the Academy and invited its representatives to the upcoming celebration of Taiwan's national holiday at the Grand Hall of the Academy.
