Five Members of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences Honoured with State Awards

On 16 February, the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania, President Gitanas Nausėda awarded citizens of Lithuania and foreign countries with Lithuanian state decorations for their contributions to the Republic of Lithuania and for promoting the name of Lithuania around the world.

Prof. Dr Virginijus Šikšnys was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas for his significant contribution to the development of biotechnology and life sciences in Lithuania, his exceptional academic leadership, and promotion of the name of Lithuania in the world.

The President of the Republic of Lithuania awarded the Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas to Prof. Dr habil. Eugenijus Norkus for his outstanding world-class research in the fields of electrochemistry and applied materials science and his significant contribution to strengthening the prestige of Lithuanian science in the world

and to Prof. Dr habil. Gintautas Tamulaitis for his significant contribution to the development of physics and science in Lithuania, exceptional academic leadership, extensive international cooperation, and promotion of the name of Lithuania in the world.

 

The Cross of the Knight of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas was awarded to Dr habil. Vidmantas Gulbinas for his contributions to Lithuanian science in the field of organic and hybrid semiconductor physics

and Prof. Dr habil. Vytautas Ostaševičius for his long-standing high-level scientific work and participation in the development of measures for the prevention of military conflicts.

 

The community of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences extends its sincere congratulations to academicians Virginijus Šikšnys, Eugenijus Norkus, Gintautas Tamulaitis, Vidmantas Gulbinas, and Vytautas Ostaševičius, whose talent, creativity, perseverance, and outstanding work in nurturing and strengthening Lithuania were recognised with state awards.
