On 23–24 May 2026, the Division of Biological, Medical, and Geosciences of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the Lithuanian Society of Gastroenterologists held the scientific and practical conference on inflammatory bowel diseases in Central and Eastern Europe ‘Innovations and their impact’.

The conference, which was attended by gastroenterologists from Bulgaria, Romania, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia, focused on the latest biological and targeted therapy methods used to treat ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Currently, as many as 11 innovative drugs have been developed to treat these autoimmune diseases.

Conference organisers and participants
Complex clinical cases were analysed in working groups, and the latest treatment algorithms were discussed in panel discussions.
