08 06 2026

The Young Academy of Europe (YAE) has announced exciting news: Prof. Dr Ieva Plikusienė, an alumna of the Young Academy of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, has been awarded the prestigious André Mischke Prize for Science and Policy.

This annual YAE award is presented to promising early- and mid-career researchers for outstanding achievements not only in scientific research but also in science policy, science communication, and strengthening the community of early-career researchers. The prize was established in 2017 and in 2019 was named in honour of André Mischke, the founder of YAE.

According to the committee that selected Ieva for the award, ‘This award also recognises her dedication to science communication, public engagement with science, and the promotion of diversity in research. Prof. Plikusienė’s professional activities perfectly reflect the YAE mission to foster scientific excellence, leadership and responsible research across Europe.’

The André Mischke Prize for Science and Policy will be officially awarded during the Building Bridges 2026 conference, the joint annual meeting of Academia Europaea and the YAE, which will take place in Budapest on 13–15 October 2026. At this meeting, Ieva will deliver a plenary lecture in which she will present her contributions to science, science policy, and international scientific collaboration.

Prof. Plikusienė’s scientific achievements and academic leadership have earned significant national and international recognition. In 2021, she became a recipient of the L'Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science award in Lithuania, and in 2022 she was recognised as one of the world’s most promising young scientists and received the International Rising Talents award. She is also actively involved in nurturing the next generation of researchers by supervising doctoral students, mentoring early-career researchers, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.

‘I am grateful to the Young Academy of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences for nominating me for this award. At the same time, I am very pleased and surprised to receive such recognition. I am delighted that the laboratory-based science can also have an impact beyond its walls. This is yet another opportunity to promote Lithuania’s name internationally and to demonstrate that science in Lithuania is of the highest standard and significant on a European scale,’ shared Prof. Plikusienė.

We congratulate Ieva on yet another remarkable achievement!
