State Decorations Awarded to Three Members of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences

On 6 July, the Statehood Day (the coronation of King Mindaugas of Lithuania) and the National Anthem Day, President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda awarded state decorations to 45 citizens of the Republic of Lithuania and foreign nationals for their services to the Republic of Lithuania and for promoting the name of Lithuania around the world. In the White Hall of the Presidential Palace, awards were presented to representatives of various professions and walks of life, including three full members of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.



Academician Vilmantė Borutaitė, a biochemist, Doctor of Science, was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas for her contributions to Lithuanian science, her international academic activities, and her efforts to promote Lithuanian science worldwide.



The Knight's Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas was awarded to Academician Rolandas Palekas, an architect and professor, for his innovative, sustainable, and functional architecture and his dedication to teaching.

Academician Remigijus Žaliūnas, a cardiologist, Doctor of Science, professor, was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order ‘For Merits to Lithuania’ for his contributions to cardiology in Lithuania and for enhancing the prestige of Lithuanian healthcare worldwide.

The community of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences extends its heartfelt congratulations to the academicians honoured with state decorations.
