At a joint meeting of the Baltic Assembly (BA) on 18 September in Riga, members of the jury selected the winners of the 2026 prizes for literature, the arts, and science.
This year’s Baltic Assembly Prize for Science was awarded to Prof. Dr habil. Zenonas Norkus, a Lithuanian philosopher and sociologist, a full member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, for two academic monographs: ‘The Great Restoration: Post-Communist Transformations from the Viewpoint of Comparative Historical Sociology of Restorations’ and ‘Post-Communist Transformations in the Baltic Countries: A Restorations Approach in Comparative Historical Sociology’.
The Baltic Assembly prize for Literature was awarded to the Latvian poet Kārlis Vērdiņš. The prize for the arts went to Darja Popolitova, a contemporary artist and PhD researcher at the Estonian Academy of Arts. The Baltic Assembly prizes will be presented during the assembly’s session in Tallinn on 22 October 2026.
The Baltic Assembly prizes for literature, the arts, and science were established in 1993 with the aim of promoting the development of literature, the arts and science in the Baltic countries, recognising the most outstanding achievements in these fields, and making them known in other countries. They are awarded once a year for work produced over the previous three years.
The community of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences extends its congratulations to the Academician Zenonas Norkus and wishes him every success in his future endeavours!
