International Multidisciplinary Conference on Autoimmune Diseases

04 06 2025

The Division of Biological, Medical, and Geosciences of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, jointly with the societies of gastroenterology, rheumatology, and dermatology of Lithuania, organised a conference on the optimisation of treatment of patients with autoimmune diseases. The conference was held on 29 May 29 2025 in Vilnius. Autoimmune diseases are known as the ‘diseases of civilisation’ and are becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide. According to the ‘hygiene hypothesis’, improved sanitation and quality of life expose the human immune system to fewer antigenic stimuli from the environment, causing it to ‘attack’ its own tissues. This has led to increasing incidence of autoimmune diseases of the gut, skin, and connective tissue. Lectures on relevant topics in the treatment of autoimmune diseases were given by Prof. Johan Burisch (Denmark), Prof. Antoni Chan (UK), Prof. Simone Ribero (Italy), prof. Gediminas Kiudelis (Lithuania), Assoc. Prof.  Goda Sadauskaitė (Lithuania), and other specialists in gastroenterology, dermatology, and rheumatology. Complex clinical cases were presented and modern treatment options were discussed.

The conference was opened by Prof. Limas Kupčinskas, chair of the Division of Biological, Medical, and Geosciences of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
